Greetings from Limbo!
Dear friends, students, and fellow travelers in art,
I’m writing to you from a new city, in that in-between space where I’m both exhausted and filled with possibility. With a week between Carnival and the start of school, I’m taking a moment to sort out my mind map—pausing today to take stock before setting out to explore Prague tomorrow.
There are always two maps, aren’t there? The external one, filled with streets, landmarks, responsibilities, and what already exists, and the internal one, shaped by our aspirations and dreams. So much of being an artist is about aligning those maps, navigating toward what we want to bring into the world. Today, I’m charting my course, looking at where I am and where I want to go.
Speaking of manifesting things in the real world—our donations for the Knights of the Kitchen Table Charity Shoppe are starting to trickle in! This community project supports World Central Kitchen, which feeds those in crisis, offering nourishment for both body and soul. The submission deadline is March 24th, and more details can be found on our website. Your creativity can make a real difference.
For this week’s optional homework, I invite you to draw a map of a place you love. Include both internal and external markers—your favorite park bench alongside a hidden dream, a coffee shop next to a hope you hold close. Let your map be a blend of what is and what could be.
I’m gathering stories from the road and can’t wait to share them with you in class. Until then, I hope your inner compass leads you to moments of beauty and joy.
With warmth from the journey,
Karima
Looking ahead, our next FREE Sunday class is on March 30th at 10 AM Pacific on Zoom, where we’ll have a Venice-inspired show-and-tell and dive into costume design and fashion sketching. As always, these classes are open to everyone, and you can find more details and enroll on the Cammellot website HERE.
