This handmade pysanka (Ukrainian Easter egg) was lovingly created on a chicken egg in the traditional method using beeswax and colored dyes. It features a simple design of flowers and vines in colors of red, white, green and yellow on a black background.

A springtime tradition with deep cultural significance symbolic of the season of renewal and rebirth, they are often given as gifts to friends and family as a wish for a good life. My hope is that this pysanka, when displayed, will give you joy and hope.

This egg was made using the traditional method where beeswax is applied to the egg after each color is dyed. The magic happens at the end when all of the layers of wax are removed over a candle flame and then beautiful design and colors are revealed. I love that step of the process! As the then almost black egg changes into beautiful colors and designs, this step itself reminds me of rebirth and hope.

This egg measures approximately 2-1/2” tall, 1-3/4” in diameter and 5-3/4“ in diameter and comes with a simple clear plastic stand for display, as shown. A coat of varnish has been applied to protect the design and add a smooth sheen to the surface.
